Memtrove for Mac

Find any file or bookmark on your Mac by name, content or meaning. Claude can search them too.

Memtrove helps you find files on your Mac when you remember what's in them, not what they're called.

It keeps a local index of your home folder (or the folders you choose), external drives, cloud-drive folders and your Safari, Chrome and Edge bookmarks, and searches it three ways at once:

• By name — including partial and fuzzy matches.

• By content — the text inside PDF, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Markdown, plain text, code and email files.

• By meaning — "contract about late payment fees" finds the right document even when those words never appear in it.

Type filters in plain words: "last month", "in Downloads", "pdf", or an exact phrase in quotes. Every result says why it matched — in content, in file name or by meaning — with the matching words highlighted. The preview shows the document's outline and opens the section that matched, so you can check a clause without opening a 60-page file.

Works with AI apps. Memtrove includes a local MCP server for Claude Desktop, Claude Code and other apps that support MCP. Claude searches with Memtrove, reads only the sections it needs, and answers with quotes from your own documents. It's read-only: Memtrove never changes, moves or deletes your files. Claude can also list your largest files and duplicate files, so you can decide what to clean up.

Private by design. The index stays on your Mac. There's no account, and searching works offline. You can mark sensitive folders so AI apps see only their structure, or nothing at all.
